This short documentary film is timely, meditative and inspiring. It features a live symphony performance, revealing a unique “backstage view” of the birth of new music. We watch quietly as internationally renowned composer Dr. Stella Sung witnesses the Orlando Philharmonic premiere of her recent work, Rockwell Reflections. Dr. Sung reacts emotionally as the fifth movement of the work is performed under the direction of Maestro Christopher Wilkins. Screened above the musicians is the Norman Rockwell illustration that inspired this stirring piece: The Peace Corps: JFK’s Bold Legacy. We hear Dr. Sung and Music Director Wilkins talk about the value of art and creativity as a way to connect leaders to their public. The documentary features beautiful high-defnition footage of the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra and stirring archival photographs of Peace Corps volunteers. We hear JFK's 'Ask Not' speech near the beginning of the film and then hear Barack Obama's stirring Election night speech from Chicago in which his calls for a New America dedicated to service and patriotism. It will evoke strong emotions from anyone who loves art and music... and feels the change America is experiencing under a new administration. (Completed January 2009)
