Dr. Lisa Mills is a Professor of Film and Associate Director of Film & Mass Media in the Nicholson School of Communication and Media at the University of Central Florida. She holds her BA in English from Jacksonville University, her MA in Mass Communication from UCF and her PhD in Political Communication from the University of Florida. Dr. Mills has directed 18 documentary films that have won numerous national and international awards and have screened in festivals all over the world. Two of her films are in syndication with the
American Public Television Exchange.

Doctor Mills is a recipient of UCF’s Luminary Award, and teaches documentary production, documentary theory and history, and graduate research methods for film. Before entering academia in 1999, Dr. Mills was an advertising copywriter, a broadcast journalist and freelance television producer.

"I consider myself a social scientist/artist because combining those two seemingly incongruous roles in documentary filmmaking feels natural to me. I conduct my research inside personal relationships and effort to employ compassion in my attempts to understand and value human subjects. My goal is to make artistic choices that will help others understand the souls and settings in my films. I want my work to dramatize conscious and unconscious truths of the human experience."

Dr. Mills is a member of FilmFlorida, Inc., Florida’s largest trade organization for film production. She currently serves on the Orange County Commission’s Working Group that is exploring the possibilities of a local film production tax incentive or rebate for Orange County, and she has walked the halls of Tallahassee promoting a renewed film production tax incentive for Florida.
